We got it Sunday too, and coming again on Friday after a couple days in the deep freeze. I honestly don’t remember a winter like this in my life. Frequent snowfalls with real cold weather in between. I can’t think of the last time we warmed up any and it didn’t snow.

Here in Maine it has been a rollercoaster for weather. Get dumped on with snow (around 2' hard pack base now) and zero degree weather and than rapid change to high winds and 40-50 temps with rain. 0 temp now and no wind but by noon supposed to be 35 with 35 mph wind and tomorrow it is supposed to go up to 50 with rain and maybe 55 mph wind. Definite going to be trees down and power outages.

Glad to be off grid with solar and battery packs and wood stove heat so should be no problems. I cut all the big trees around me this past summer because we have had way too much of the high wind storms that blow down trees and buildings (a cattle farm in town collapsed on 85 cows). In my own yard I had a foundation I was taking down with my backhoe and the wind toppled the last wall (28' x 8' approx)! I had tried to topple it with the backhoe with no luck so the wind actually helped me. Also, the wind blew over a big wolf pine tree that I had cut the trunk and wedged but would not fall...I left it for Mother nature to finish and the wind did the trick.

Seems like this weather cycle is the new Winter here. It has done the same thing 3 or 4 times this year.

Would like to hear the details of your solar setup. What batteries are you using? Batteries are the reason I don't have a solar system here. Well, that and running a 4 ton heat pump.

Sam's club Deka 6 volt golf cart...best bang for the buck. They have two versions that use the same case and it is better to get the slightly lower amp ones so the plates have extra room to shed inside the case...think they were $80-90 each when I got them. A guy bought 30 of them while I bought mine. With a larger solar system, a fork lift battery is a good option. Lead acid batteries tend to swoop down in power under load and then increase in voltage when load is taken off them so they are not used for stable power system (like ham radios etc.). A lithium ion battery is the best but very costly. When starting out, the Sam's club batteries are best because beginners always make mistakes and having a bunch of inexpensive separate batteries is better than frying a few big name brand batteries like Trojan, Rolls etc.. I have a solar controller that does everything automatically so I just have to add water now and then and keep snow etc off my panels. I have been on solar for going on to 10 years and totally happy with it..no electric monthly bill and pretty much guaranteed no power outages. The. Cost of electricity in Maine has recently had a large price hike and power outages from storms is common place. I have multiple types of back up generators that are seldom used. I have a Miller welder generator and use that for air compressor and shop tools and heavy loads. I have electrical experience so I know how to set up the whole thing.

I’m blaming you for our weather. It blows down from Manitoba into Minnesota, Wisconsin, and right into Michigan. Its BS Gary.

I would normally blame Matt as most of our worst weather comes out of Colorado but this year it has been Alberta so I guess I need to own it. In some ways it isn’t the worst scenario, a good Colorado Low and stick around for a few days and shut everything down, these Alberta Clippers are faster moving and usually only last a day.

I assume those are the gc2 golf cart batteries? I too have electrical and electronics experience so won't have any problems. I assume you have a mppt charge controller? Have you had to replace any batteries in the ten years? What is the expected life of the batteries?

I have been researching this for a few years, I never though I would get my answers on a chainsaw forum? Fuggin clown world! Lol, thanks for taking the time to answer.

Glad no one hurt. I am off grid and have solar panels with battery banks (also wood heat). 0 temp here now but going to rise rapidly and by tomorrow rain, 50 degrees, and wind maybe up to 55 mph. Glad I cut down all the trees around me (had about 6 trees 2' and bigger that I cut this past summer). We will be having trees down and power outages for sure but my solar and wood stove will keep things running for me. It should get rid of a bunch of snow (we have hard pack base near 2'). Maine, USA where I am is famous for drastic weather changes.

Glad there are people around like you to keep people safe and things going! I will be getting things hunkered down here. 0 last I checked but 35 by noon and 0 wind now and 35 by noon so I gotta hustle this morning!

Long story short, all our pump and kompressor electric motors use power supplied off site from the national grid.
Critical flows have safety logic attached to ensure the flow is as designed.
No electricity, no flow and then logics take over and shut the machine in question down to protect it or the downstream equipment as required.

Day before yesterday the national grid guys went to swap from one feeder line to another.
1-2-1 supposedly, but we got 1-0.....oops, sorry.
