Now I'm working on a boat motor.
Twice the dumbness in this ones case.
Finally dug through the pile of hoses and crap and found a couple carburetors.
Heres the stuff thats NOT going back on.
In case anyone cares, VRO stands for
Very
Risky
Oiling.
Nope. Not on my watch.
Thankfully, whoever had it before me had disconnected it some time ago.
I'm putting an old style fuel pump on. It still has the place on the block for it.
The top carb wasnt too bad.
Bottom one seems to have been filled with mollases.

Got the lower unit off.
No pics, but it will get a complete water pump, along with new gearcase seals.
Should be a good little unit when I get done.

Dont matter, if it floats, got tires, tracks, or teats, its ALL gonna cost you.

Our Cajun friend says a set of 50 HP carbs is a bolt on, and easy upgrade.
Same block, bore and stroke.
Bigger venturi and larger jetting on carbs were the only difference in those.
These particular carbs have no mixture adjustment needles.
Just a fixed air mix jet. Not sure how one synchronises the upper and lower carbs, other than changing orifice sizes in the Jets.

Carbs are a good start. The reed stops are different on the 50. They let them open more. And the cyl head from the 50 is cut differently. The 50's usually run 160-165psi the 40's 150ish.

Boysen and Carlson both make good dual stage reeds if you want to pop for them. Jetting will be required on the idle side.
