A wheel balanced down to 3 grams or 0.10oz is easy accurate enough. I'm thinking its because the display needs that many numerals to do ounces?

most of the balancers I’ve used only go down to quarter ounce which is about 7 grams

Agreed! Most people don't even notice a whole ounce on a passenger tire.
