Wife and youngest are at the lake this week. This pic of the dock next door should give you an idea of how dry and low our water is.

Wow that sucks Gary.
It seems weve traded places.
Normally we would be going through a drought and low lake levels.
Lakes are full, its raining right now.
Bosslady called and said they were about to get a torrential downpour about now down south.

Right. My 2 AR's are setup for cqb and have Burris prism sights. The .308 bolt rifle has a nikon 6-24x50 and RR lar8 has a trijicon 5-20x50. I like benchrest shooting but it's been awhile since my ammo I like hit the roof.
One thing that surprised me back before buying my 15-55. I was directly comparing it to a 12-42x56 scope from the same manufacturer after a 300 yard shoot. The 55 power scope had more field of view at max power than the 42 did at its max with 4 more mm of objective lense. I couldn't believe the difference.

I just have a leupold 4-12x 40 gold ring with parallax adjustment, definitely enough for deer though. 300 yards is a long shot up here

I was being serious. It's like the 125x zoom cameras they have now, but they are almost useless unless the weather is ideal and the subject close.
With what we use them for, mirage is the problem. I rarely use mine above 40-45 power unless its cool and overcast. Otherwise it looks like a High plains drifter type movie.

Yep. Those two scopes I mentioned are useless for deer unless they are s couple hundred yards away. Even then not ideal. When I hunted deer 9 power was the highest power scope I used but it was always on 3 lol. Last couple I shot were open sights on my AR and one with a red dot, also on the AR.

Got back yesterday evening.
Oakwood GA today and tomorrow doing some inspections and repairs, then Suwannee Thursday for repairs.
If I finish early enough, I'll head to Swainsboro Thursday night and stay with Bosslady at the cabin before heading down to Waycross to work the weekend.

I like that area too. Most of that part of GA is nice. Blueridge area is a little more uppity, but some nice country and mountain views.
Take Hwy 76 east from Dalton, and theres a ton of cool places to see.

+1 on the hunting settings.
Always keep on lowest power for ease of target acquisition.
When I would forget and leave it turned up, it always caused cursing, and a lost opportunity most times.
Have had a few 300+ yard shots, but most have come inside 100. Probably most inside of 50.
Of course, this was before the boating accident.
That old model 70 was fairly accurate for what it was. Probably not an egg shooter, but I could ring a quart bottle at 300 yards consistently.

Was dating a girl at the time who's parents bought a house in coosawattee so I explored the area in the rental suburban for a few days. My ohio ass got lost in that mountain town, village whatever you call it lol. Them are some fugged up road situations in that place
