Genuinely don't want this to turn into a handbag swing.
We don't have any volume of 2500 or 3500s down here so no-one knows anything about them, including me.
So the perfect truck is what? Cummins, Allison, Dana's in a Ford shell?

For us, wife and I, its best reliability rating followed by ride and mpg as long as it meets our towing and or hauling needs. Off-road capabilities are not a priority anymore. Towing over 5000 isn't either.

i did a heater core on a 98 f250 and to get the hoses off i was elbow deep under the cab section and took me 14 hours to change everything had to come out of the dash to get to it
i said never again

I worked at a Ford dealer for a short while, I worked on a few jobs where we pulled the cabs off of Super Duties to do 6.0L head studs. Wasn't all that hard when you had a lift handy, they pretty much had it down to a science.

busy but I’m doing well. When the head went on mine you didn’t need to worry about knowing. As it warmed up it would build pressure then burp in the coolant tank and your low coolant light would come on. My guess is you are past the point where you need to worry though

Fictitious unfortunately tho John. Mate of mine told that joke to a bar full of hotties once, had asked them all their surnames. Honestly if I was gonna buy a diesel I would go with with an LB7 or LLY. People beat off to the LBZ and now the prices of them have skyrocketed. I like my Fords but Ford hasn't had a good diesel since the 7.3L.

i like being able to work on something without taking the cab off of
when i was early 20s i worked in a garage and worked on more fords than any other brands
ball joints and tie rods should last longer than 15000 miles

I like Ford but the tie rod deal....we had 3 different ford escorts. Used them as work commuters only. All three needed tie rods every 40-60,000 miles. No matter the brand or if greasable. We didn't beat them down dirt roads n such. Just a *s-worde set up on those I guess.

also smell the oil for either coolant or fuel in the oil

The Twin Traction Beam and twin I-Beam front suspension ford used on their trucks were notorious for eating ball joints. Mine never gave me much trouble but I was meticulous when I set up the alignment which is probably why.
