My understanding from what I’ve seen some great builders post is that the difference won’t be much with the 87. But will be a difference with 198 and good porting. Maybe someone with some real world experience to this will chime in.
Man John that's rough. Sorry to hear this budChitty day bad start to the week. Stuck out of town. My aunt passed away yesterday morning from non hodgkin's lymphoma. Got the call that my uncle left us this morning. That's enough bad news for this week.

Good information Steve! Thanks for that. I’m gonna try my ported with the 120 and see what gains I see from porting alone firstThe 120 and 144? have the same size venturi ring as the 198 and 199 but the bore is a bit smaller so the venturi effect is lessened, so while they can run right with the 357 carbs they are usually temperamental to tune and pull less fuel on a ported saw.
I put a new 120 on a built 254 and it was killer...
...a 198 on a 346 can flood easily while starting the tuning can be touchy. All depends on what you do with it.

I’m excited to try it out!If you don't dicker up the intake port it will probably run pretty darn good.
