We just had the tank pumped a couple of weeks ago, so it really wasn't too bad smelling. Digging up the old lines was sorta yucky though.

Tank hasnt been pumped.
Bad sign when you have to have that done.
It means you have other problems.
As in drain field isnt doing what its supposed to.

We have a county ordinance requiring it every 3 years. If you don't, your looking at a pretty hefty fine.
