It wasn't super cold when this one failed, single digits, but winter is the only time I see them explode, so yes, temperature has got to be playing a part.

Not a dumb question at all. I was wondering the same thing.....and I spent two years of my life in school to be a mechanic.

I've been surprised at just how many things in this modern day and age are not heat treated properly after hardening the metal. Amazes me that something so simple can get lost in the manufacturing process and not just the automotive industry either.
Oh well, job security for you I guess.

It was a nice day to call off work.
I'm finally able to use access a couple hundred sick hour's
I accumulated in the past 25 years.
Cutting storm damage for the old fella
He worries about getting his tractor to his fields
For hay season
I'm setting some blocks out in the woods
For turkey season
