I’ll tell you fellas something that’s been bothering me since late last night after I got some texts from another Marine in a private Marine FB Group. Kinda the reason I was looking for a beer after work today. Was actually a ‘toast’...to a young Brother Marine that I never met. He committed suicide. I know now many details after the fact...but they don’t make a damn now.

It’s a f’d up life we Marines share, make no bones about that. It was hard on me to read the texts last night. The wars have taken their fare share of fine young men and women while actively engaged and fighting, across all branches. When they come home and try to adapt to what is ‘normal, everyday life’...it can be a tough row to hoe.

I don’t like to put this post up...but if I nor anybody shared things like this, it can get a little swept under the rug. He fought for every damn one of us.

He left behind a wife and young daughter.

If you folks know of any Veteran struggling, if they give any clues...just listen to them...they speak the truth from their perspective, it’s what they know and how they are, trying to cope...just listen to them, talk to them, don’t be judgmental...if given the opportunity. You could be a game changer in many lives!

‘til Valhalla...Semper Fi!

I know there are many songs out there, but when I hear of a suicide from an active or former military person, I always think of the song by Poison...”Give Me Something To Believe In”. The song references the Vietnam War...but the only thing that changes in the future is the name of the war!

Again, if you know any Vet struggling, or anyone else for that fact, Vet or not...shut your mouth...and lend an open ear. I’ve been in this position with several Marines and others...gear it down and let them talk before you ever interject any sort of any opinion or response. Think about what you’re saying before you ask or say it...you’re dealing with minds that are not the general population who have never seen what they’ve seen.

We share on a couple of private FB Marine groups our contact info. At least then if a Marine is in dire straits and he or she is posting up things like possible suicide...we react pretty quick and try to intervene with phone calls, texts, etc. Sometimes it works...unfortunately sometimes it doesn’t.

I know what Hell is like...we gotta curb this suicide rate of these fine young men and women who signed their name and got a first class ticket straight into war!

We’ll never end it all...least we can do is try.

Feel you bro. I had a good friend struggle with depression and talked about suicide to some who he thought cared about him. He mentioned it multiple times to me. Struggling with his depression he was asking for help. Many gave him the standard answer well if you were serious you would just do it, you’re just looking for attention. Well one day he hung himself. Please listen as Jason is saying. Maybe some are bluffing but indeed some are dead serious and you don’t want to be one who thinks you should have done more to help. You can’t get a do over on those opportunities!
