I dont think whoever it was was TRYING to square file.
I bought the saw from a local shop. Was on the "abandoned" shelf.
Ive looked at some of the square filing stuff. Looks like it would cut plenty nice, but the long back angle under the cutter would dull out pretty quick in the dirty stuff I cut.
