They can keep mice away, but so can foxes and coyotes, hawks, and other predators.

I like to keep a few cats around my place, to keep the mice population down.

Without a few cats, mice are everywhere. 3 or 4 good cats, and I almost never see a mouse.

I also have 4 cats that mom had and they are outside
My boys are fixed and the cats that was moms are feral
I can only get about 5 feet away from them
But I don’t have mice
Feral cats are the best ones in my opinion because they don’t really expect much from you and self reliant

Evening slackers and jackers, it’s been a busy weekend of this and that so haven’t been around much. Did I miss anything important?

@3browns how’s the Mrs?
She is getting better every day

Whatever it was that had her reliving the 60's is out of her system and she is getting around way better than I would have ever imagined

She goes in Thursday for her first follow up and I think it will be pretty routine

Thanks for checking up on us Gary

The feral ones are better hunters, I think. At least the ones I have had are better at hunting, then the tame ones have been.

I don't like needy things that crave constant attention. So the wild feral ones are a good fit for me.

The two I have now I had to trap at a farm down the road. Farmer had about 20 cats, he said if I could catch a few I could take them home. They wouldn't let me get near them. So I set some coon live traps for them with food, waited a few hours and had them. They are pretty wild, after having them for a few months, they kinda warmed up and will let me get 5-6 feet from them. I did pet one of them briefly after trying for two years, then he hissed at me and ran off. They don't like anyone other then me thou, anyone else comes here they run and hide. They will be in the front yard dicking around, mail lady pulls up, they run for the barn and hide. They really don't like people, kinda like me.

the outside ones stay back even when fed by me
if they are close to outside door and they hear the door start opening they will go a few feet
i do give all my animals the so called leftovers such as hamburgers and chicken that i cook

Topsy and turvey
Before I moved here my sister and I was feeding moms cats
One day she found 5 newborns beside the driveway
These was the only 2 to make it
Named because Topsy has cerebral hyperplasia
It’s a nervous disorder because the mother was malnourished when she was pregnant
It messes with their balance
Topsy has grown out of it for the most part but when he was a baby when he stopped walking he would fall over on the back side
Now he waddles struts when he walks
Topsy is the one without tan on face
They was born April of 22

I saw Toppsy Curvey dancin' at a strip club, mid 90's in Milwaukee WI.

We had a few feral cats at the fence supply place I worked at. They lived around the railroad tracks behind the industrial park. A couple of them were more docile than others. They named the most domesticated one Socks. It took about 3 months of working there before I could get close to her. Here she is sleeping on my forklift. We didn't have any mouse problems.

We live on the corner of a fairly well-travelled road and a small side road. The side road apparently looks like a good place for slackass people to drop off their unwanted cats, as we live about 10 miles out of town in the boonies.
If I kept all of them, the place would be overrun with pussy...
Sorry, but I'll put out rat poison and take care of my own rodents.
Most of the cats I catch here get "relocated".
Sorry for any of you I offend, but it pisses me off worse that some pansyass doesnt have the time to take their unwanted cat to the animal shelter(yeah, we have one pretty close to our house) or the balls to put them down themselves.
Cats, dogs, etc are animals. They dont control their own urge to reproduce. Its up to the owners to do the right thing IMO.
I digress. Its probably a lot harder for a lot of the folks around here to control THEIR urges to reproduce...

mom always took in strays and i couldnt say no to a kitten
the ones outside i cant catch are not fixed but if they have kittens rarely do they grow up because of getting hit on the road or other animals
