Those look great actually. Slows people down a bit. At least you know what to expect VS black ice on dark pavement that strikes out of nowhere.
They used to just spread sand on em. I liked that. Now they salt the hell out of em. It was too cold when we took those pictures for salt to do anything.

Salt typically won’t work below 12* unless the sun is beating on it. Sand does great for 2 reasons: 1) adds obvious traction, 2) sand’s natural dark color attracts sunlight and helps to melt snow around it as well.
