49 this morning and a nice light rain overnight which means I don't have to rush out a water this wretched hydroseeded lawn

Any day I don't have to do that is a good day

I swear it is like having a baby all over again and I am too old for that

Hopefully in the end it will be worth it

We planted 5 of these Hot Wings maples and they seem to be doing well

My son has been experimenting with milling and cutting our "cottonwood"/black poplar lately

A guy he works with claims he built a house completely from milled on site cottonwood

That goes against all conventional wisdom up here that says cottonwood is worthless for ANYTHING

I think cottonwood makes for decent framing lumber…might not use it for critical stuctural stuff when better options are available.

Now I’m curious why it has gotten such a bad reputation

I cut trailers full of it for years on the same property my son owns now and all I ever did was haul it to the green waste site at the dump

I even bucked and quartered at least a pickup load once and set it out by the road with a FREE FIREWOOD sign on it and never had any takers
