Got a couple free Scot’s pine saplings today doing a job for neighbour he wanted most of his taken out as they were just horrible form, health, hit hard by weevils and porkies. He planted 1200 in 86 and what remains maybe 60-80, he calls them “little bastard trees”, hates them, “the dream was there then it went brown” lol
When they grow decent they look great. Planted mine and threw some ash in the hole I dug to raise the ph in the soil for them as our soil is on the lower of their tolerance end, then a few shovel scoops of fermented chicken poop. See how that does it. Il try to control any other limbs that try to take off as scraggly co leaders and porkies don’t last long on my land.
You guys see much of Scots pine down south? I know it’s native to Europe and Asia but used to be a common tree to reforested old abandoned fields and pastures.
