I got the sled gassed and started yesterday ready for riding. Ditches are ready now but the trails don't open till the 1st due to several hunting seasons being open for a couple more days.
Nice! Our trails are open here. As of yesterday the groomer was stuck on a hairpin corner on a hill road after a track broke. Some of the guys from the club were going to try and get it repaired after dark yesterday... My sled is in the garage waiting for a quick greasin’ and look over. My wife has had her sled out a couple times giving our boys rides around the yard.

I just hope to get some miles on this year. I always “aim” for about 1000 miles of trail riding, but don’t get worked up if it doesn’t happen. Last year I put on 14 miles and then it was parked due to my broken foot..

I bought my 1st when I was 13, with my own earnings, raking leafs, mowing grass, shoveling snow, giving handy's at the bus stop, while waiting for the school bus in the morning.

I told my Dad I wanted my own sled, he said great get your ass to work, I have 9 mouths to feed in this house.

I can't imagine my life without one.

Your dad sounds sorta like my dad.

Dad caught me using his lawn mower to cut one of the neighbor's yards. He took half the money I made, and told me to get my own mower if I wanted to do that stuff.

I sold a few bikes that I'd cobbled together and bought one. I was 8 at the time.

My first one was 1980 440 scorpion whip. Older gentleman had it since new, it only had 375 miles on it, it was mint always in a heated garage, he hardly rode it.

I bought it 1987 for $800. I sold it in 1993 it had almost 8,000 miles on it, engine had just been freshened up.

I had tons of fun on that sled. Rode it everywhere in the winter.

Yeah sounds like it, he started charging us older kids room & board, when we started working part time jobs. My mom had a fit over that. But it was his house, so his rules.

He showed me the door when I was 17. I'll never forget what he said when I was leaving "those are one way hinges on that door, they swing out, and not back in, you're on your own now"

I kinda was bitter at him for a while. But I got over it. He taught more at the time, then I thought he was.

Looking back at it all.

It's colder than *s-word, -5°F and -30°F wind chill. I'm hoping none of our pipes freeze. I've got covers on the outdoor spigots but I don't know if they really do anything.

The Dodge did start, unplugged. It took a while to wake up and it was not happy about it at all. I didn't have to go anywhere, just wanted to see if she would pop in this cold.

I use a cheap dollar store broom on my truck makes it much easier to clear snow than a actual snow brush, gets the roof easy too

I broom the deck off and I pull the straps and bring them in or they freeze solid.

Well....my dad was a prick. And a drunk.

A few years ago his youngest brother came to see me. He said he needed to get something off of his chest.

He said...."I never liked your dad. He was a real bastard.....and he treated your mom like chit". Said he just needed to tell me how he felt.

I was sorta surprised to hear that from him....after all, they were brothers. But dad was a lot older than Wallace...and he was right. Dad was a real piece of work.

Mom divorced him when I was 9 or 10. He died when I was 18. We found out later that he was married to three different women when he passed away. He would have a few kids.....then bail out. A real winner.
