I'm no logger fer sure. But looks as if you guys had some luck on your side. No holding wood and barber chaired. Who ran first??
All the weight was on direction of fall. Saw bound making the notch. Used some techniques that would be considered different.

Crane Man Brent @Dream and other working men. So everyone.
Have a look at this evaluation of an incident from Garyland.

Really hard to watch that knowing one of those guys left 2 kids and a wife with one in the oven behind.

Very surprised by the lack of proper PPE. I’m bet my SIL is glad she retired from Woksafe BC and won’t have to investigate that mess.

Makes a guy wonder on this company's track record in structure violations, certified inspections, and safety violations. Very unusual to see no safety harness's, hardhats, and serious buckling, structure failure. It's outta my league but I'm sure @Dream has some input

Someone is always left behind Gary, and i'm very sorry for their loss. The still of what appears to be an attempt at cheating one of the laws of physics, balance, didn't fill me with joy.

You two are just smart enough together to be dangerous. Next time stick a bar right in the tree to see what you got, first.

Then go get the rope out and pull the mfer over. No shame in living another day. I downed a few of those with long bars, a pole saw, the rope run through two blocks and hooked up to a 4x4 on pavement. No love for that chit myself. I wouldn't climb that particular rotten mfer you have there. A choker above and below holds them together up top when I have to chunk down a hollow one of oak. I don't mess with maples like that or hollow sassy just oaks or hickory. The base screams problems and the low green suckers.

Saw that.
Glad I dont work on those.
Bridge cranes are dangerous enough.
Everyone can BS and fugg around before and after, but when its time to work, chit WILL be squared away and done the way its SUPPOSED to be done.
I got plenty of other chit I need to do, and dying would GREATLY hamper that.

Nope.
Kinda looks like they got careless. Balance is VERY important when lifting and rigging.
We have to deal with it on bridge cranes, but tower cranes are a whole different sub set in the lifting business.
So are port cranes and pivot cranes for log handling at sawmills/papermills.

If I know one is hollow, and most of them down here are, I'm getting the cables and blocks out.
Do a shallow notch.
Cut in from sides.
Leave A LOT of holding wood.
Cut the "trigger" at the back.
Pull the Mfer over.
I AM NOT NOR CLAIM TO BE A PRO.
Just seems lile the safest way to get it on the ground.

A good friend of mine operates a tower crane I love it when he asks me up for a Saturday morning. Can’t get me up there fast enough. It’s just unfortunate that someone didn’t make it home everyone deserves to come and go from there workplace
