We've had some different terminology over the last 20 years or so, thats for sure. You said "utes". The mixing of culture over massive boundaries continues.
Way back when I was a younger fella, it was a car, truck, or a Jeep.
There were always other variants of course. Had panel vans. Suburban was in that category.
Forgot about the "station wagon".
The "sport utility vehicle" replaced that.
Now a Jeep, Bronco, Scout etc is lumped right in with the station wagon. Bit different historically. Wouldnt usually see a station wagon out on the trails, as most lacked a front axle and any off- road capability. They were just passenger cars with a larger rear common area instead of a trunk.
The "crossover SUV" designation was another thing entirely. Now you have part car, part SUV, and none of it done well.
There are some capable exceptions to this.
Honda CRV and Ridgeline for example.
Some people here poke fun, but those lil bastids will go most anywhere, and might just drag a 3/4 ton diesel "douchemobile" behind them while doing it.
Seen more than one diesel "penis compensator" get dragged around by a Subaru with AWD.
