My HS wood shop class got pretty brutal some times launching *s-word with the jointer. The teacher had been there for 30 plus years. He loved the lacquer.

Depends on the species. Siberian and slippery elm aren't very good. I've found American elm is roughly equivalent to white ash and is best split after its sat bucked for a year.

The water flows out of the elm we have around here when cutting it. It throws a really blue flame in a camp fire too. Nasty trees. After a couple years of drying of course.

Working in some sticky azz spruce today. Customer requested stub be left about head high so the tree spade could grub the roots out easier. That's a new one on me.

Randy, ida figured having the thumb would be better than not. At least ya got something to pinch against. Thumbs is important.
Had a friend saw his COMPLETELY off on a table saw. Couldnt do much with that hand afterward.

Where it’s stiff, I wack it on stuff all the time. Can’t wrap it around stuff either. Sometimes I think it would have been better to have just left that end of it off.
