Just as the title states, saw has a new aftermarket top end, not sure of brand. The guy I got it from said after replacing the top end, it wouldn't start. I believe the muffler is aftermarket also. How about $250 plus actual shipping.

Any idea why the top end needed replacing?

Too bad he didn’t give you the old cyl…probably would have cleaned up fine.
I wonder how many usable OEM cylinders are replaced each year with aftermarket garbage. A somewhat damaged OEM cylinder will still have more life and performance than most new aftermarket.

Not too long after I started getting into chainsaws, I picked up a MS 261 with a scored piston quite cheaply. I bought an AM piston and cylinder to replace it. Good thing I didn't toss it, as started learning more, I was able to clean up the cylinder. Wasn't too long I lost the AM piston to an air leak, so when I swapped the piston, I put the original cylinder back on it.

I also have an original McCulloch 10-10 with bits of a piston ring embedded in the roof of the cylinder, when it comes time to work on it, I will need to find someone with a lathe that will be able to mill the rings flush with the roof...the rest of the cylinder is still in good shape!!
