Good day, wanted to reach out to some folks on this page to discuss what diagnostic/improvements I should put on a list for this saw. It came from Home Depot's Tool Rental dept and ran when I picked it up. Seemed like it was kept up alright, but im fully aware the "pile" that rental machines can be put through. Should I bother with a tear it down and rebuild due to the unknown # of hours on it? Thanks for any/all thoughts. Thanks also to Paragon Builder for your review a couple years back!

I got a 6421 about 18 months ago. It was used Home Depot rental saw but not beat. I checked everything on it and replaced the rubber bits. I'd give it a thorough inspection and see if you find anything. It may have spent the most of its life on the store shelf?

I just happened to browse through their Used Tools for Sale on their website. Browsed my local HDs (approximately 6 in my area, 30 mi radius). They will not hold them (first come/first serve).

I've had decent luck with the ex-rental saws I've gotten from them. I think ole' @PA Dan is spot on with checking and replacing the rubber bits. It can't hurt, and they're relatively cheap. The 5600 is a great saw. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Plug was nicely toned for a 2-stroke. Filter was clean. Being this saw is only a year and some old, I think it's in fairly good shape. Honestly the pull start is the only flaw I could find. I did reset it on the rotor, but once I started it up again, it hung out like that. Is this a known issue?

Sounds like somebody yanked the crud out of it, mebbe pulled some tension out of the spring. If that is as bad as it gets, I would just pull the rope up through the handle, cut off the extra length, and tie a new knot. Do keep us updated on how well this saw runs, it may turn out to be the last Dolmar design ever.
