I'm putting a new OEM ring into a 346xp oe and its gap is only .003. Is this too tight?

Yeah that's a little tight. I always use the .004" gap per inch of bore. So I believe your bore is 44mm=1.73"×.004=.007" gap min. I'd shoot for .010" myself.

I agree. That's why we check. A few swipes with a file and it'll be at .007 or .008.

OEM cyl and ring. Pushed it down to just before the intake. I suppose there's a special file for this?

You could use a diamond file if you have one i suppose or a very fine normal one .....I have not filed a ring down myself.

Just checked all the IPLs again and checked against my invoice. I guess things just happen.

I used to check every single one, but I haven't had a caber, at least in the 026 model, ever come in at anything but .006-8.

I always check over the exhaust port as well. The rings live there.
