So today was ok for the most part until my car tried to kill me.
No seriously, my car really did try to kill me. I was driving home after work and notice that the car was filling up with smoke. I pulled over and saw that my rear trunk area was completely full of smoke, I drive a Subaru Forester so it's really easy to see when something's in the back. When I open the rear hatch smoke poured out and that's when the Flames started. I was lucky enough that's some passersby stopped and gave me a small fire extinguisher and I was able to suppress some of the flames until the fire department came. In the end the rear quarter panel and trunk area of the car is destroyed and the interior of the car has been melted and or ripped apart by the fire department to make sure there were no more flames. I'm thankful that I came out of it unhurt, but im just so frustrated that everytime i seem to just start to get ahead, life throws me a wicked curve.
I realize that this could have been so much worst, for example if this had happened on our planned trip tomorrow to richmond, i would have had my pregnant wife and son in the car and the potential for harm could have been so much worst. But still, im angry and frustrated, and wish i didn't feel this way.
Here's some pictures of the day...

NHTSA has a website you can look up similar registered complaints for like models. I did his when my Honda blew a transmission line. All over the exhaust manifold. Talk about smoke.

That's a mess, glad no one got hurt. Any idea yet what caused it?

The fireman said maybe electrical, they think that a harnesses was arcing. Not enough current to trip the fuse but over time enough to get the plastic lit. The insurance company doesn't bother with forensics unless there's a recall or a criminal case. Neither apply in this case, they have already settled we are just waiting on a copy of title to get the check. My wife has petitioned Subaru to investigate, and we are waiting on thier response.
