Big end rod bearing is intact....
I did not pull the pin out yet to see if that's where the remnant of the roller in the exhaust came from. It had no play or rock to it though...

Saw would sputter and pop some but would not rev up...
Compression was ~150psi
I cleaned carb, properly assembled it with missing gasket, still ran poorly.
Would not tune and ran very inconsistently, which is what prompted further inspection.
This is what i have found so far.

What i was thinking also, but the steel bits in the muffler (the sphere that appears consistent with the size of the dimples and what appears to be the remnants of a roller bearing) have made me question this some...
I was told saw was running fine got pinched and took a fall out of a tree stuck in the limb that also landed on it. The top handle was crushed and then replaced by a Stihl repair shop. Saw has not run properly since. All the info I was supplied.

Yes it might be that. But considering what came out of the tank who knows?

All kinds of trash gets in the fuel tanks on refilling. It pays to rinse and dump into a small white plastic bucket on a regular basis. Let it settle and recover for the lawn mower.

I've purchased a couple non runners that had two to four table spoons of water in them.

My 4hp Murry thinks it's a Lawnboy.

I took a closer look at it this morning. It does look more like erosion than being hammered by foreign debris. Pin bearing looks fine. Metal bits must have been from a previous failure.
The check valve that is pressed into the carb is bad also, probably most of the running issue coupled with incorrect assembly of the diaphragm, missing gasket and complete lack of maintenance...

Anyone had any luck with the AM carbs on these? May be cheaper than trying to replace the check valve.
I don't know a lot about these lil fellers. This is actually the first one of these I have ever had in my mitts!

I did check out his eBay store for available goodies... I have to see what they want to spend towards it....
Do you have a couple of these still for sale? I remember reading you had a few in one of DD's posts...
They may just want a decent runner instead of a rebuild on this one..
