Why jars? o_O

Quite different setup than here in Croatia! :)

Glass is the safest material to store alcohol in when it’s that high proof. It will leach chemicals from most plastic and some metal containers that change to the taste and smell. And it makes it convenient to transport and sell or give away.

What about proofing bubbles in the same place but a different batch?
Seem logical to stick with a known vessel, yes?

I could never do it myself but understand it in practice.

Proofing by bubbles has more to do with the speed they disappear and the size of them. I can check with bubbles but I proof everything with a hydrometer so that I know exactly what I’ve got.

So, what do you look for? I distilled old beer on my kitchen stove. I'm guessing it is 50ish% based on the fact it burns. Very fine bubbles that last a while.

A rough rule of thumb is the smaller the bubbles and the longer they last the lower the proof. At 190 they disappear so fast you can barely see them. The quick and dirty way to proof is try setting a cap full on fire like you did. . If it lights it’s over 100 proof (50%)

Problem here is the water. If your not masking it your going a hundred miles to PA and getting some or farther. Seems like anything less to cut it with is just not right or possibly all wrong.
The locals make some horrible hooch here. The good stuff all comes from the hills or mountains it seems. Knowledge, know-how and experience in the right place... good stuffs :)
