Read all of the threads on software availability and it seems it is a divided camp. Two of the dealers in my city, one is John Deere and the other is the Kubota/New Holland dealer. Talked to their service departments about their MDG1 diagnostic /recalibration tool and he informed me they send it to other dealers who have one ! I would buy one if I knew I wasn't buying a $600 door stop. After reading the yo-yo threads of you can,you can't was skeptical. The latest skinny from the average joe who owns one?

Forget it. It is dealers only and it is good that not everyone messes with it.
I just rebuilt a 500i and some members say I must do a recalibration? Manual says 5 bucking cuts and it will reset. Members say negative!

I’ve owned one since 2018 and lately had to fight them for a software update. I think I was just lucky in that I purchased it from a John Deere dealer. (same as buying it from Stihl Southeast). That gave me kind of a leg to stand on when push came to shove. I had actually retained a lawyer although that turned out to be unnecessary. I love the tool though. If you can get someone at Stihl (or John Deere) to sell you one, you could probably count on a future software update. Otherwise it’s a (more than) $600 doorstop.

I think as far as your saw is concerned, if it runs good you are done. It will still work as it should I think. I’d seek out help if it starts acting strange.
