I bought this saw around a year ago. It has around 3 hours of run time. I always use ethanol free fuel @ 32:1 Schaffer’s 9000. Pro safety dogs and new red coil. I ran a tank thru it the other day with a 32” bar and square filed skip chain cutting 28” red oak. I’ve always called this saw the “bulldozer” because it’ll pull anything. Hate let it go but I have other plans. PayPal F&F, PHO, $1000shipped, and a man much wiser than myself Once said “wherever you go, there you are.”[emoji51]I’ll get a piston pic up asap.

Free bump for a potential derail, any idea how these stack up to a ported 500i?

Always wanted a 7900 but having a 500i I doubt I need both.

500 might have it on parts availability down the road. That's it IMO. But an argument could even be made against that.

Well....I've got both, both ported by my friend Kevin @huskihl and neither are going anywhere soon if that's saying anything. The XS500i is a favorite (I think it was the second one that Kev ported, @dall 's one was the first) and it keeps getting stronger the more I use it. The XS7910 is considerably heavier but feels smoother and very very torquey. the Makita went on the dyno before it came over and put out over 8Hp between 8500 and 12500rpm - so it's extremely forgiving. The 500i is probably faster but is a bit peakier, but as I said it seems to get stronger the more I use it.
