I'm not fan of the "easy start" on my 5105 either. No real need on a 50cc and it adds width and likely some extra weight.Sachs-Dolmar 108 (40cc) / Dolmar PS-550 (56cc) / Dolmar PS-6400 (64-79cc)

That spring assisted starter assembly makes the PS-550 beefier than she has to be , also I don't like the feeling of the starter assist.
She'll get a chance to prove herself.

My advice to get the best out of any of the "Easy Start " pull starts on the Dol/Mak saws is you need to change to a less hard and fast pull over. The saws will fire up without much pull speed and when warm....just by bump bump bumping them over the compression. Let the MPI coil and the spring do there job. No "drop starting ether " !! ..Better to use the "hook the rear handle" method or on the floor.Sachs-Dolmar 108 (40cc) / Dolmar PS-550 (56cc) / Dolmar PS-6400 (64-79cc)

The system works at its best on the saws with primer bulbs IMO. Having used both the 5105 with and without the easy start..I would chose (and did) the easy start set up.Oh, I have figured out how to use the easy start feature and I get along pretty well with it. It works great on an already warm engine.....just a tiny little pull on the cord and its going.

When warm any healthy engine will start within a stroke or two, cold not so much.Oh, I have figured out how to use the easy start feature and I get along pretty well with it. It works great on an already warm engine.....just a tiny little pull on the cord and its going.

I have string trimmers with easy start, the system works - I just don't like it very much. The system works at its best on the saws with primer bulbs IMO. Having used both the 5105 with and without the easy start..I would chose (and did) the easy start set up.
What tool do I need to adjust the carb on mine, none of my carb tools seem to fit. - ANSWERED, see next post!Unfortunately it isn't a screwdriver ...
Different from the 3601 though
Is that the one I got?View attachment 125847 View attachment 125848 Great saw really like them
I tuned my PS-550 to 13k WOT no load today.
She is holding 7.5-8k with the 18" bar fully buried in oak, or 9k in logs of smaller diameter than the bar length.
The chain is 3/8" chisel tooth round filed, nearing the witness mark.
My PS-550 is much snappier now.
I want to try the barely used PowerSharp loop I have on my PS-550.
I figure I can easily adapt one of my A041 bars to fit, but I need a small spline sprocket in 3/8" LowProfile (Picco).
Can I get one from my Husqvarna or Stihl dealer?
I am basically asking if such a sprocket is a Husqvarna or Stihl thing, I am guessing Husqvarna.
Don't get me wrong, the PS-550 has enough grunt to pull a 18" 3/8" chain fully buried in oak.
I just want to try and utilize the PowerSharp setup that I have and don't use on my 40cc saw as it is too aggressive and bogs the little 40cc saw down.
Dolmar PS-550 videos coming soon.
Sooo, no ready to use small spline 3/8" LP/Picco?If I remember correctly you have to get a Stihl mini spline piccolo rim from an 026 and file it to fit the small spline drum.
Check with @fordf150 Nate@dahmer had one made for him by someone.
That 490 converted to 3/8 lp is a totally different saw. Way faster and smoother than the .325. I had to shorten the tail on the bar and that was it. I used a 400 18” bar, oil holes lined up good. Now I can run the same chains on my 400,s and 490.There you are lol. Thanks I couldn't remember who made that thing. I kind of feel like I need one just cause.
Thanks, but I am not going to bother Nate with a single sprocket.
