Maybe, but that means the buyer pruned off an amazing amount of branches as the tree grew tall. Perhaps only the homeowner could confirm that.
Could be...especially in that area. Tree had visible rot in the base and they finally decided it had to come down. Residential trees are always interesting...especially in older neighborhoods.

Well its back... at this point its the second time her top has come off since I built it. Intake had a small leak and she went lean..

This will be the 5th or 6th time I've done at least a top end on this saw.

Was leaking at the intake / cylinder joint this time. It is treated beyond poorly. Ham fisted, chains with tons of hook and really low rakers, 84 dl skip chains.. its a pure mess. It was leaking, yes.. it could have been tuned out though. Sadly they really start to sing and they get excited; "Man its really running good!!" --> She's coming apart!!

I'll try to get a picture of the chain that was on it.

This is the side of saws that a lot of hobby guys miss. Commercial saws catch pure grief every day.

There is nothing out there that can destroy a chainsaw faster than a crew working for a tree service company or the owner for that matter. And, just take a look at how they store or throw the saws in the truck's bed. I suppose I should not complain. They generate a repair business for me in rather short order.

Very very true.

Looks like the powder coating held up well.
It sure has. Overall its been a pretty decent build. The clone 660 build beside it on the bench was built about the same time..maybe a bit earlier. Again it's held up pretty good. Its the operators ... not the saws.

Manual carb saws & ported saws should never be given to crews of boneheads & ne'er-do-wells. Stock Auto-tune or M-tronic only. Ported saws are invaluable tools in the hands of skilled operators or those with mechanical knowledge. I have observed clearing crews on the transmission line easement through our property on several occasions, and it was not a pretty sight.

This.

I tell my fellow tree killers this, they want a ported saw but have no idea what makes a chain cut, they've never cleaned an air filter in their life and have no clue what a 2 stroke is supposed to sound like. It's a bad idea in the hands of most tree services.

I may do a small muffler mod but for the most part it is a stock build only for customers. I also do not let a saw leave with an inoperable chain brake or missing chain catcher.

This particular saw was a mild woods ported saw by Scarr but that topend came off early in its life. This top end was an OEM Stihl 12mm non-decomp jug with a Meteor. Now this jug is a door stop and not salvageable.

Here is the chain it was running. It wasn't terrible but I hold a high standard for chain. Much better than most of his chains..the rakers are way low.

Oh...muffler mods are a good thing on the auto saws. It helps prolong the death from overheating from the usual culprits of saw death.
