My dad had one with a loader on it when we were kids. Diesel. Rotted away in the woods now likely. My brother bought one and doesn’t need it since he has a backhoe n stuff. Thinking about buying it for the shop to replace my grandpa’s 8n we use to drag the 8 acres of yard smooth. I’ve heard it said they were the worst John Deere made but not why…?

The one my brother has is equipped with some goofy loader that’s not very good. I’d rather have the factory one like my dad’s.

IIRC the engines are a sleeve & deck plate design that makes it a B to work on, hydraulic system problems & parts are/will be hard to find. you'd be better off keeping the 8N

It would be interesting to know as I thought they were all 28's but those look like 38's. I have some not so good stories with a 1020 and a 2020.

I don't know anything about the later JD tractors, only one we had was a 1950's two cylinder that was really good. For 1960's-1970's, I know that both Ford and Massey Ferguson are excellent. We've had more than a few of them, I currently have a 1970 MF-165 bought new by my grandpa that still plows and pulls logs like a champ.
