Is this an 038

My BIL got this given to him and i thought it looked like about an 038? Any help appreciated.

Definitely a 038. Which one idk. AV, super or magnum. You’d have to measure the bore to know for sure

Ok thats what i kinda thought. Think it needs top end and some other stuff. Ther are some parts for it in boxes but got to go through it.

That's a great score there if the cylinder is in good shape. That's one of the best Stihl ever made.

The first one is an 038 or 038S. They have a different case on the mag for the wider jug bolt pattern.

I was wondering the same. The AV and the Super have the same cylinder bolt pattern. The Magnum is slightly different.

Yep - the timing circuit in the CDIC coil was set to light the LED and retard timing at I think 12,500 RPM.

The coils have a tendency to "brown out" over time though and the max RPM gets lower and lower before the coil totally fails.
