I think it gives them a connection or makes them feel part of something despite being insignificant. Its sorta sad. The video makers know this, often reffering to the audience as 'family'. Living their life through the prism of someone else is one level above misery.....and they'll happily take it. I truly feel a bit sorry for many of them.
