I've had a Lincoln 180 mig, the dual voltage one for at least 15 years. It's been an amazing little machine. No complaints here

My opinion, buy one time correctly.

Can’t use the amps you didn’t buy.

Stick with a quality brand like Lincoln, Miller or ESAB.

I personally bleed Blue, so I am Miller all the way. Lincoln did make the best transformer stick welders back in the day, I’ll give them that. I’ve never welded stick with anything better than an old Idealarc Roundtop.

I’d recommend finding a used Millermatic 200 and not looking back. They rated it at 60% duty cycle, and it’s the same welder as the 250 with less stuff to break. It’s a big pro machine and arguably the best MIG Miller ever made.

If you want to dabble in tig, get a bottle of argon and a torch setup and you can scratch start off of your Stick welder.

Everything I've got is Miller: 250 Bobcat, 35oLX tig, 250 mig, 625 plasma, and coming soon will be the Dynasty 400.
I've tried everything out there and I agree 100% with Doc Al; you cant use what you didnt purchase.
Buy once and save in the long run.
I like Lincoln equipment, but blue runs through my veins. You cant go wrong with either one.

The 200 is a nice welder but thats way more than ill ever need. I just use the mig on small repairs. 1/8" and smaller. I have the big lincoln ac stick welder for the heavy stuff. I like the lincoln 180 mig. Can be had for 700 new today at my farm store. But 220 only. Id like to have dual voltage if i have to repair something at my dads place. He only has 110.

The imig 200 can stick weld too. Now you say i can mess around with tig using the stick side im really leaning twords the everlast.

I have a Hobart 230 Ironman at my house and a millermatic 250 at work. They are both great machines. The Miller is all digital controls, the Hobart is all analog knobs. I went with the old tech when I bought my Hobart because it is dead nuts reliable. Have run many spools of .030, .045 and .063 without issue. Takes about 2 min to swap out the spool. The 10lb and 15lb spools seem to have the best pricing deals at least that is what I have found. Haven't hand any luck getting free shipping on a 30lb hahaha but they will ship two 15lb for free??? o_O whatever I'm easy.

And for a side note. Both can run a spool gun if you have a need for that. Really kicking myself for not getting one with my 230.

Edit: Everlast makes a fair product. I have one of their plasma cutter. It is a beast. 220 70a machine cuts 5/8 plate like butter. Bought it because it was cheap. Didn't expect it to work as well as it has definitely have gotten my money worth out of it.

What does this even mean for the welding deficient people like myself?

Duty cycle is the amount of on time verses off time.

Example: 25% in a 10 minute window, the welder can only be continuously used for 2.5 minutes before the welder reaches overtemp.

Alot of cool things have come in the welding world. The new inverter machines are very capable. And I'll dare to say some of the new 110 machines will out perform some of the older 220 machines.

Choosing a welder will drive you crazy. I'm very happy with the one I chose, but I also have a sinrowave 250 tig available. So I have my bases covered. I primarily bought mine for larger jobs. If I didn't plan on using it for hours on end. I would have chose something smaller. But it's really nice not having to worry about the duty cycle. I know the op's needs are different than mine. I was just pointing out that I have two similar capability welders and they both do the job great. If you are into high tech go for it. But there are plenty of old low tech out there that will fit your needs if you are on a budget.

Now I'm thinking I could use a 110 mini mig myself!

Not quite sure that’s how it is. They Probly have a specific time to rate duty cycle.
