I was using my 365 today cutting off a big stump. Saw died and I tried to start it back and the rope pulled out about 3" and locked up. I thought the saw had siezed. I let it cool and started taking it apart. When I took the top cover off I saw a bunch of little white fibers. I didn't know what it was. I took the starter cover off and saw the rope in a twisted up mess. The air injection thingy was all mangled up too. I have never seen this happen while a saw was running. Anyway when I was taking it apart the spring flew out. It appears it should have some sort of pin in the spring. Would anyone know what kind of pin it is? Plastic, metal, dimensions? Thanks.

Your recoil rope was probably either not tensioned tight enough with slack, or the rope was too long. Or it just broke. All of the above can cause it to come off the spool and catch the flywheel while starting it. Nothing really holds the spring in other than tension. They can tend to fly out! Watch the eyes. Put a little oil on the spring and grease on the starter axle before you put it back on the saw.

This happened while the saw was running. It was a mangled up mess. I took the recoil apart to get some of the rope out and the spring flew out. I can't get any tension on the spring because it won't catch the little notch in the cover. It just looked to me like there should be a pin in the end of the spring and in one of the holes in the spool.

I had a MS660 catch the flywheel with the rope knot. Failure was spectacular. [emoji90]
Yeah. It was a mess.
