I just bent back the deflector and worked under it cutting away material. Then bent some of the left over stuff back to not restrict airflow. Also smoothed out the deflector edge and bent back down when done.

On my last 262, I found it Easier to cut the entire muffler in half, do the mod, and weld the whole thing back together. Was actually faster than trying to futz around under the deflector.

Any of you guys have a 261/2 builder for sale?

I was gonna do an 036 for Christmas Saw but now I'm considering a 262.

Ideally I'd take one for less without a jug or with a bad one. I have numerous 262 jugs, including non-decomp KS, but only one nice 262 that's never leaving here.

@Landmark, have you heard of anybody fabricating a substitute for the big washer that goes behind the three shoe clutches on these? they are nla from husky but seems like something a person could do on their own.

I have not heard of anyone doing it but seems like a easy thing for sombody with the 'know how' to do. The last ones i got came from bplust. I only have one left.

@drf255 i am just wondering if you have a secret 'cheat code' for all those likes. Maybe where i can get a two count for everytime somebody likes my post. Very impressive ratio my friend.
Sorry OP didnt mean to derail the thread.

Found a Saw.

I now need a clutch cover with brake, an intake elbow and the washer that goes behind the 3 shoe clutch.

Al if you happen to find two intake elbows I will buy one from you. I have a 257 that I am converting to a 262 and that stinking elbow is NLA.

Thanks,
Joe

I'm not sure if they are NLA yet, partstree have them, but they may not be 100% updated.
We still have the big washer in Norway, bought one today.

Big washer dimensions, 10 mm center hole, 53mm overall diameter, 1mm thick

:)
yup, that is the dimensions of the big washer, part nr 503 52 12 02

Just noticed this thread, and didn't read all of it.

There are 3 basic differences between the 262xp and the 261;

- first, the piston is "dished" on the 261, to take the compression and performance down (cylinder is the same)

- second, the muffler of the 261 is much more restrictive, for both the above and EPA reasons (the 261 was an "EPA special", US only model)

- third, the clutch is different, 3-shoe on the 262 and 2-shoe on the 261.
