I'm fixing up Chris' @quietfly 084 a little for him. He is a damn nice guy, and needs his saw to make those cool things he creates. So, after installing a new piston, and cleaning up his OEM jug, the old saw fired up and ran pretty well. One serious issue though, no oil getting to the bar pad at all. :(

I pulled the side covers off, and was surprised to find that someone had replaced the oil hole with cheap clear tubing.......now that's never gonna work. lol

Once the oil pump override cable is loose you can get the oil pump out far enough to get the new hose on the pump. I heat the end of the oil a little and use the modded pliers to push it on as far as possible. Then you push the hose thru from the inside out toward the bar pad. This all sounds pretty easy, but that hose is stiff as hell. The pliers are a life saver.

Here it is installed, and ready to reassemble. No kinks, or buggers. Without those modified pliers, this is damn near impossible.

The 084 looks to be a bit more complicated than the line I just installed on my 036 earlier this week. Yes that Stihl hose is very stiff. Heating it up really helped to get it onto the barb of the oil pump. Hope mine lasts a long time because I don't want to repeat the process anytime soon.

Thank you SO much!!!

Oh man, you are welcome. That wild looking bowl you made me sits center of my kitchen table my friend. I just want you to get a serviceable saw so you can keep making such cool stuff.

I've dropped the hose in a jar of boiling water too....that helps, but it's hard on the old hands. lol

:coleman:need more super bananas after that workout

This has been a rough week. I hurt myself again last Thursday testing saws, and I've been in misery since. I didn't ship anything this week, I just haven't been up to testing. I'm starting to feel some better now though.......

Tried the boiling water too once.

This last time I bolted the oil pump to the side of my work bench through the mounting holes and used a heat gun to soften the end up a little. I used a 1/2" copper plumbing cap over the opposite end and pressed it onto the barb of the pump. However, the line on a 036 is only 3" long compared to the 084 which looks to be the entire piece of tubing.

If I planned on doing more I'd make the pliers. You get two tries on the 036 and then you need to spend another $12. If you goof up once on this saw it looks it gets pricey.

Homelite made a grey oil pump line that was a good replacement for the hard plastic Stihl hose and was much easier to worth with. I haven't been able to find it for a while but I did a lot of saws with it back in the 80's and 90's and it held up for a long time. It had a softer consistency but was springy and wouldn't kink.
