I was beginning the teardown of my 372 xpw when I noticed the flywheel had a crack under a recoil pawl. I assumed it was caused by the same thing that busted the fins, but the more I dug into it, the worse it got. The WTF is the friggin flywheel's warped! How in the hell do you warp a solid chunk of aluminum this friggin badly!? The one case bearing is also shoved out of its pocket into the crank. At this point I'm thinking about getting a donor case half, flywheel, coil, and crank. What do y'all think?

It looks like maybe a high speed impact - maybe the saw was in a bucket and got dropped?
I have no idea. I got it 4th? hand from the destroyer, but I heard there was copper wire coiled around the crank previously. There's a nice pair of parts saws up on AS, I just can't decide whether I should pay $50 + shipping just to get a case half and some resaleable parts. I'd be tempted to build the 365 with the 371 top end, but I'd have to re-use my current case half, which would mean it is good enough I could just use it on my saw and not get the 371. :hollering:

Wire wrapped around the flywheel? Warped flywheel? Could have been a attempt to torch the flywheel while beating on it for removal?

Wow. Owned a 288 once came close to that no bend or warp in the fluwheel. But fins shattered flywheel and cylinder. Worst id ever seen. Saw ran like a champ. I replaced flywheel always wondered what happened. One day wide open in good size wood. It locked up on me sounded hotrible. I figured out wgat happened before as day I ran it a cylinder bokt backed out. I couldnt believe the damage caused. I am thinking like JJ dropped out of bucket
