Hello wood doctor. Thank you for looking at my pictures. Exactly what does it look like I’m missing. I thought the square piece on the chain adjusting screw was chain tension adjuster but I really don’t know. Thank you for your help sir.Note the Pics that Farmchuck supplied, There is no chain tension adjuster even though a machine screw is there. I ran into this also and made a part with scrap steel that threaded onto the machine screw and moved the bar along, That worked.
You might check your duckbill valve inside the oil tank right near the cap. They wear away with age and tend to let bar oil into the crankcase..It also smokes like crazy on 40:1 ethanol free fuel mix. Kind of a bluish gray smoke. It runs like a champ though. I think my dad used to run 16:1 mix in it. He bought it new in 1973 Hasn’t seen a ton of use.
Is it possible that little square thing is on backwards? It's supposed to stick out about the thickness of the bar.
The little S clip won't do any good on these saws, the loops in it are for the bar studs to go through and take up space on a bar that's too big for the studs.View attachment 236937 View attachment 236938 View attachment 236939 View attachment 236939 View attachment 236938 Okay here are some photos First one is bars. Old bar is on top new bar on bottom. I did notice there is a square in the old bar that is not on the new bar. Could that be part of the problem? Next is the bar nut & the plate that goes on the outside of the bar. The S shaped spring is the thing I got that I heard might help but it looks like it was made for a different model perhaps? Much to big for this saw. The rest are just pics. of the saw. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. ThanksLooks like I screwed up & sent the pics. A couple times.SorryView attachment 236937
Correct or the projection is worn off from use through the years. Mine was missing altogether, The projection uses the cutout on the original bar to grab and move it along. Mine was using a new bar that had nothing except the end of the bar's stud slot. Surprisingly, that slot was just short enough to work with the part I fabricated in the shop. You just have to be sure that the projection protrudes out no further than the thickness of the bar.Is it possible that little square thing is on backwards? I took the little square thing off & it appeared to be in correctly, the other side is rounded & wouldn’t fit in the bar. One thing I did notice was that the chain tension adjustment screw moves back & forth loosely in the saw housing. Is this normal? It seems like if that’s moving back & forth it could cause the chain to loosen. There are no threads in the saw housing the screw goes through that hole & then into the little square thing.Correct or the projection is worn off from use through the years.
