Here’s a slant fin I bought on AS for $20 two years ago. Saved it for a rainy day. Well that was today for my bros 12mm 044 he wants built on the cheap for occasional use. Well it’s a no go because it’s measuring 2.105 Id (EDIT TYPO - measured 2.015" = 51.181mm). They should be around 1.975-1.985 ish. Or 50mm. this measured out at almost 52 mm. Holy crap how did it get so wore. There is some plating left even.
new 044 50mm piston shown for reference. 83F9A5C8-1BA1-4A5A-AB88-AF3E55DEE7BD.jpeg

What's the red FOD in the piston?

You sure its a 044 jug???
Doubt a jug could wear that much.
Somethin aint rite,,,
It’s a mahle slant fin cylinder. Not gonna lie it’s fairly rough and worth the $20 gamble. But it’s decoration now. Not sure there’s any 52 mm slant fin cylinders unless I’m oblivious

2.105”=53.467mm, no way it wore 3.5mm lol

You're right, I had a typo - 2.015" = 51.181 mm.

I measured the bore with a dial caliper. in the bottom along with through the intake port using the depth plunger on the caliper.

Do you still have the old piston?

have you measured and compared the heights, ie crown to bottom of skirt & wrist pin to crown.

I’d be also interested in the fitment up the top of the cylinder

can you see any markings/ post pics ;)

edit, I just thought about your first post, you brought it for $20

so what’s the depth from the base to edge of the squish band. I'm trying to figure out what the stroke is, ie a 440 or something else

Yeah I have no clue what this came off from. But I will get more pictures this weekend when I get back into my shop. When I grabbed my other "stocked" KS slant fin, it bolted right up and fit perfect on the "other" oem 044 piston I already had on the crank.

Don't get me wrong, this cylinder was basically shot but I am trying to build this on the cheap for him as he doesn't want to spend a lot. A lot of the plating was gone but I figured for the occastional use and maybe a couple tanks of fuel a year, it'd get him by for a few years. Now it's got a fricken KS cylinder and he probably won't be able to afford the saw... With that said, I should have probably put a cheaper piston on it if I ended up down that road. whatever, it all worked out.

At the risk of sounding like a know it all I have to say something about pistons .They are not just as simple as being a round slug connected to a rod going to the crankshaft .The only actual round portion is the ring pack area near the piston crown .The skirt has both ovality plus taper from below the rings to the bottom of the skirt .It's the most narrow along the pin axis and widest at 90 degrees which is the thrust area in the skirt .You can't just carve one down to size in your South Bend lathe and expect it to work because it won't .
Modern methods use CNC machinery .Out dated methods used the most complex mechanical methods .They figured this out decades ago .

I will note it measures more at the bottom of the cylinder than it did through the intake port using the plunger

Any other markings? The majority of that still has plating, and ive never seen plating come off like that on a OEM cylinder.

No other. Maybe I’m mistaken on oem? Assumed 1128 was the identifier but I’m no expert.
