How can one tell if the clutch shoes are worn too much?

I was referring to the holes in the shoes where the springs hook in. They wear in and can go so far as to be past the casting hole with the back side of the spring on. 066.

Well, I had a used OEM clutch that looked like it was in great shape I was going to throw on. Pulled the old one and the seal looked bad. Dealer had them in stock and didn't charge me anything to pop the old ones and install the new ones. I'm glad I have a good dealer to work with. It took him all of 5 minutes to find the seals, pop these out, clean a little, and pop them back in. I took the old clutch with me and he said it needed replaced. This was with him knowing he wasn't making any more money on parts because I took the used one with me. He pointed out a few things different about the two and showed me a new one. The one that was on it was definitely worn. Now lets go see how it does in some wood.

Well that didn't go well. Saw runs great, still kinda bogs down in 10-12" stuff. It doesn't oil well at all. It burnt the paint on a new bar in about 6-8 cuts. It slings a little off the chain, but not like mine does. It has the metal oil pump, and the worm gear looks good.

Is the pickup screen clean?
Yes, I removed it and cleaned with gas. It had a little crud, but didn't fix it. I am getting air bubbles coming out with the oil. I picked up a new pickup tube from another dealer I use after talking to him.

It seems to oil and then stop, then oil again. It is getting hot enough to thin the oil pretty good. This is with very little cutting. It was doing this before I changed anything else besides the tank assembly.

Does it have the adjustable oil pump? The drive arm on the worm gear can slip on that style. Is the pump nipple tight to the oil pickup line?

No it is not adjustable. I've got a new pickup line I will install later today.

Sometimes the nipple that connects the pickup line has swelled and that makes a loose connection, air can get sucked in but usually oil leaks out there also.

That's what I thought as well but it doesn't. I didn't get a chance to fool with it tonight. I will change it tomorrow and see what it does.

Did you try some thin oil? Pull the bar off and let it spin the drum? See how it pumps to the bar pad. I have spun some saws using a wire cup wheel on my electric drill against the drum to gauge output. Not sure if your s can do it if it is only driven by the crank.

I took bar off and bar plate and ran the saw. That is when I realized there is air bubbles in the oil. This is with a full tank so I know it is picking it up. Pickup screen is clean, worm gear looks good, and gear on pump looks good.

Is there a way to remove the brass end without damage on another pump to remove it from a parts saw? If not, is there a way to replace the oil line?

The oil line needs to come off the pump and be pushed out through the bar pad towards the bar studs, the brass furrel expands the line to keep it at the bar pad.

I might also add that these lines with the brass furrel are very inexpensive. The last one I bought at the dealer was $3.00 plus tax. I asked the gold certified tech at the dealer I buy the majority of my parts from about the line several years ago -- he replied that he used the black Stihl fuel line as a replacement (good or bad that's what he said).

Changed the pickup and a plug fell out of the pump. Does it do anything? Can I replace it with a used plastic non-adjustable pump? A new pump is $60.00. Here are some pics.IMG_20171116_172432587.jpg IMG_20171116_172421251.jpg

Should be able to clean it up and put the plug back in. It looks like this pump is the metal non adjustable pump with the metal worm gear (am I correct). Although I did not scroll up to see what the latest posts are. If rinse the tank with some fuel mix well and you checked the screen and the supply line and you still get no oil -- the pump is probably bad. You should be able to pick up a used pump fairly cheap on fleabay -- or its possible a member here may have one for a reasonable price. If your case is new enough and has the bottom cut-out in the casting you could use a chinese adjustable pump (I have bought several of them, and added the OEM worm gear and each one has worked flawlessly). Hope this helps
