All of my benches are covered with metal. To me that's the single best thing I've done. Because of that I can clean up and change gears quick. I do 90% of my work in the same small spot, so my most used tools are hung/stored there. I don't worry about metal chips, they sweep up off the steel benches really easy, and get cleaned up off the floor every few days. That part is never ending. I just keep saws that are apart covered, and away from that end of the building. Parts cleaning is done outside with an air hose, then washed in an US tank on the other end of the building. Saws are messy, and if you do this everyday, you'll have a pile of messy saws to contend with. Fact.
Metal is the only good option.
It's the only thing you can clean chips off of.
I got a old vacuum to clean chips with instead of a air hose.

Be careful with items like aftermarket coil lead. I've tried it from a few different vendors, and it's always junk. I get rolls of Stihl lead, and Echo & Stihl fuel/impulse line rather than mess with AM stuff.
I use the black stihl fuel line and instead of buying the oil pump kit for a 064 stihl makes a clear super soft line that's perfect for it.

Looking from the barn into the soon to be saw shack.

Shack lit up, need to saw out the fixture in the ceiling.

9,6 wide 15,6 deep just under 6ft to the edge.

This is going to be "saws" only. have enough tools once I get a spot for em in here they stay here.

Any non saw projects will get done In the barn.

I prefer a shop at least a mile from the house. Keeps the old lady away and makes you feel like your going to work.

Yeh, that is nice too..

Joe, I bought lateral filing cabinets like these. Five feet high by 30 something wide. I got two of them at a used furniture place. I can't believe how much stuff they hold.

Those would be handy.

Yeh, probably get some grey aluminum for the bench tops.

Think I am going to move the compressors out, and build shelves for powerhead storage. maybe hooks for bars/chains too.

Been wondering all morning, so I have to ask, what is failing on the AM coil leads, Insulation? This is not to say that I don't believe you, I can believe just about anything when it comes to AM failures. I tend to go both ways on this kinda stuff as I have some folks that want only the cheapest, and some that want only the best. I try to test out as much as I can on my own saws to see what goes on. Still on a recent build had three AM part total failures, some not making through the installation process, some grenading after start up. At least they have the decency to give up quick, bad part is the time lost in this whole process re-ordering OEM. let alone spending good money after bad. Anyways thanks for the tip. SS

Yes, the insulation is pitiful. I used one on a 026, and it didn't last thru the day. Used another on an 08 powered anchor cranker, and it wore thru in a week. After that I pitched the roll in the trash.

Joe another good tip for comfort in a n outside shop is to use one of the infrared heat lamps. Keeps your hands and tools warm even when you are outside or the wind is blowing or the shop hasn't quite heated up yet.
