I work with some volunteer groups, where we share PPE, such as helmets. The sweat bands can get gross, even if it’s just your own, but when shared . . .
A STIHL dealer quoted me an outrageous price on replacement sweat bands for their helmets. So, I got 5, different types of less expensive, aftermarket sweatbands, from Amazon, contractor supply places, etc., and I did a ‘science fair’ project with them.
These cost bout $1 to $4 each, sold in packs of 2 to 8. There are many types offered; some up to $30.
I test fit each on 6 different models of hard hats / helmets. Most fit over the existing brow bands, but there are differences in suspension design, even among models of STIHL helmets, that affect fit.
Removing, or trimming, the factory brow band might be helpful with some helmets.
Some of these replacements are just thin terry cloth. Some are thickly padded. Some are flame resistant (for welder’s helmets).
The 2 on the left fit the 2 STIHL helmets pretty well, and are thickly padded. Hand wash and air dry. Other styles may even fit better.
Having a few to swap out might be a better option than wrapping with a bandanna.
