Hi all, I have a cs 8000 that I've been sorting out. Fixing things I dont like.

The handle is too small and would like to wrap it. What're yall using? Can I go right over the existing rubber, or do I have to cut it off? I've notice there's dedicated chainsaw handle tape and all sorts of other types for baseball bats or whatever.

So far I've upgraded the pathetic felling dogs, ported it, advanced the ignition, opened up the muffler and swapped on a larger HDA 45 carb with CS 680 filter/intake. Besides building a taller filter cover, handle wrap is the last thing needed.

That bike grip tape increases diameter a good bit to , if that’s what you want to ,
Thanks, just bought a coupla rolls of that Cinelli orange tape. Looks grippy. I dont mind a smaller handle on something 60 cc, but a hefty 81 cc's it should've been a larger diameter handle.

Wear 2 Pair of Gloves!! (Humor)

Definitive Dave was going to Use Leather. I suggested the braided wrap design put on wet so it would shrink for a tighter and durable fit. He was getting FANCY on his custom colored powder coated saw. I don't know how it all worked out.

There's a bunch of different handlebar tapes. Most bicycle shops have a good assortment to pick from. You can get thin tough leather like tape that doesn't absorb much vibration or thicker less tough cushy tape There's a bit of vibration in road cycling, especially with aluminum and modern carbon frame bikes. Old school steel frames absorbed most of that. Bar tape got cushier when the stiffer aluminum and carbon frames became the standard. Usually a fair amount left over when shops tape a bar that they would give you. Many cyclists retape a few times a year.

I find the hard stihl plastic is very slippery, esp. in the cold or with double gloves on so i wanted grip....found 1inch-wide 'grip tape' used for the leading edge of stairs so you don't slip on them - basically like course sandpaper with sticky tape on the back. By the time i wind it around like a tennis grip it's perfect for what i wanted. I got a whole roll for a couple of pounds so should do me for years...

I use sports tape & black vet-wrap, its comfortable but the vet wrap doesn't hold up very long.
