Well just bought me a Makita 6421 but it's got a broken rear handle and looking for ideas to make it work. It's broken right in the bend and has a bad crack in front of it. Any ideas to stiffen it up and make it usable is appreciated.

Not sure if your looking for the zero dollars rout but maybe some pipe strap along the out side of the radius. Or theres a giynon ebay selling chainsaw skid/protection plates for a couple different saws pretty slick loking around $30. I would post a link but my phone wont let me.

That sounds fine. I just want to try and make a sturdy handle until I get the coin for a new handle. Might have to try the epoxy route.

You could always try using that stuff they use when you break you arm and they wrap it with that stuff that turns rock hard.

I'm experimenting with some Loctite PL Premium. One of my carpenter friends swears by it, says he uses it on everything, it sticks to everything, and is always stronger than what it sticks to. Says it works better than any of the premium glues.

I repaired an 034 air filter cover with it, built up an eroded part of the 034 tank handle, and as we speak I'm trying to fix a cracked 044 tank handle. It needs about 24 hours to dry. Have not run anything with it on yet.

The color comes very close to matching the Stihl tank handle.

The loctite adhesive suggested above has worked well for me as well. Only problem I've ever had with it was I used it on a equipment guard and wasn't warm enough to set properly and didn't stay together long.

That is why I brought the stuff in out of my garage and into my basement (trust me, the wife if not happy about it).

It also needs a long dry time (about 24 hours), but the stuff is very strong. I think it compares very well to epoxy, but is just easier to use. The tube had been partially used a few months ago, so I had to drill the nozzle with a 5/16 drill bit till I hit some soft stuff, was way deep in there!

I just pulled the clamp off that 044 tank handle and I got to tell you the color is a very close match, and that thing feels just as strong as new! I was going to do more reinforcing, but I don't think it needs it. That stuff is amazing!

Can you open that up, or is it just cracked? If you can open it a bit, I would definitely give the stuff I used a try, I think it will make it stronger than new. And if you don't mind the color change, just smear a thin layer over that lower crack.
