Guide Bar Straightener

Another ‘NLA’ item to keep an eye out for at garage / estate sales.

Hydraulic presses are used for some harvester bars.

Solid guide bars are said to be easier to straighten than laminated bars, where spot welds can shear, and laminations bend differently (like multiple sheets of paper, when folded together).

Awesome tool!
A laminated bar can be straightened, but it has lost its resistance to bending.

Bar Gauge Kit

Posting these items from some old catalogs, because sometimes we only focus on new / current products offered.

I actually thought this was ‘my idea’: a set of precision milled shims to use when hammering loose guide bar grooves tight (0.050”, 0.058”, 0.063”; 0.043” wasn’t that common).

‘Mine’ would have tapered edges on one short and one long side for opening up rails hammered too tight.

Easy to make by people with a milling machine or surface grinder. A simple kit to sell for the rest of us (who have our own hammers).

Many just replace their bars, these days.

A 6"x6"x12" pine block and a good sized hammer is how I learned to do it. I'm sure it weakens a laminated bar.
Right.

These spacers just let you gauge the groove more consistently, and hopefully, reduce squeezing too tight.
