Stihl axes are made by Ochsenkopf.

I have the Pro Forestry axeand it is pretty nice.

Back in the early nineties a Swedish ax was available, Stro ax, or Strohax. Best falling ax I’ve used. If anybody has one I’d like to talk to you about buying it.

I don’t have one but I think the grand ford brucks made them ?

Jake you’re right. Thanks. I never had any luck googling it before but adding the Gränsfors Bruk I found it. Doesn’t look like the stroax is in their line up anymore but found one on eBay Different country? I actually still own one but I’m afraid to take it out in the woods for fear of losing it. I took a 5lb Collins ax and ground the poll down until it was similar to the Stroax which is fairly close to the haft and is slightly rounded like the face of a golf club (driver) which makes it more wedge friendly. I really like that ax but the quality of the steel in the Collins is inferior compared to the stroax. When you hit a wedge with the stro it really drives it.

They pop up on eBay pretty random. They aren’t cheap on there but they are there. I ebayed tonight but found none. I’ve never had one just saw one a while back when I was hunting for a 5 pound head.

Bailey’s has council axes branded as woodland pro for about half the dollars. 5lb and 4lb. I think they are 28”.

I’ve got the 4 or 4 1/2 lb short handle; I hate it.

The head needs to be on a proper handle, like the 3 1/2 lb Jersey.

The 3 1/2lb Jersey is just plain hard to beat for a new felling axe.

I feel the need to elaborate.

When really pounding wedges, the short handles transfer more shock into the users hands.

The Long handles flex or give much better.

My newer short handle “Miners Axe”, or whatever it is will Be rehung on a proper handle.

36” is all I’ve ever had.

I don’t know about a 32”, but a 28” isn’t sufficient.

At the same time, @northmanlogging has used a shorter handle, & maybe I’m getting softer as I grow, but I don’t like short handles or short bars.

I prefer 36" handles myself too.
Not sure where the 32" handles came about, but I have seen them.
My GB handles are all 31.5"

Different style for different areas ,strait softwoods it works ok ,the shorer handle makes easier to pack around ,you would have to move here to understand.

I like a short handle because my aim is bad. Lol
That and I am short so 36 has to go on my back. At my waist I just drag it a round . Shoot a 28" is at my ankle.
