Obviously, this is not my site, but here is my two cent.s
There is another site similar to this that drives me crazy with a flock of FLASHING / ANIMATED ads. One flashing ad is too much, a flock of them is really irritating! Plus, the ads were above the 'fold' in each page and you cannot escape it. So far, it isn't but I hope this site doesn't become that. FWIW, I am not an expert designer but I have built dozens of websites, including a few forums, and Webmastering 101 teaches that flashing icons are very annoying to visitors and to avoided. Always. Just my opinion, carry on.
