I bought a husky 120 battery for my son turning 10. It works well and is nice to have a battery around for small jobs.

I like that. Also bonus points because you can hear him, and he can hear you while he is cutting, which will make it easier to give instruction as he cuts.

I did go one step further and bought a 12 bar and chain setup to help keep him out of the dirt. Not necessary though.
