Today I was at a pawn shop and they had a Dolmar PS34. This is the first time I've ever found a Dolmar being sold. They are very rare in this part of the country. They had $149 on it so I left it there.
Never see Makitas either other than some of the Home Depot rentals. And Jonsereds only showed up when TSC started selling them instead of Husky.

Stihl, Husqvarna and Poulan make up the bulk of saws in these here parts.

That reminds me, I've got a pail full of some small Makita that is completely busted up. Guess I should disassemble it and put in on eBay... That's the only Makita I've ever owned.

You can always justify another saw.

Never seen a Dolmar/Makita in my parts either, other than mine. Only Stihl dealers locally if you want a pro saw.

Around here Makita/Dolmar never heard of one. I'm probably the only one in my country that has Makitas/Dolmars.

We've got an oddball Polaris dealer that sells Reds, like 3 models covered in dust . only one real "dealer" and they sell Stihl. Home Depot, Orschelns etc have Echo or Homeowner saws.l

Also dolly free here in PA. Only one I ever saw was this one and I bought fixed and sold it years ago to an as member.

Edit... Forgot about my dolly top handle... Lol. I imported that one for another dolmar pile. Man I'm slipping. :)

Funny my neighbor was admiring my saws nothing too special and said he was gonna get a Stihl or husqy Of course I had to tell him to get a husqy. Asked him what he had. He said dolmar sorta embarrassed like Made his day when I told him they were top notch as well Strange they're few and far between here as well. Maybe the east coast just doesn't deal with em?

Well, it's a chicken and egg thing with some brands. There aren't any dealers and there aren't any significant marketing attempts. It requires both and Dolmar has neither. So no matter how good of saws they have, they'll never increase market share without a deliberate effort. Everything I know about Dolmar and Makita saws I learned from internet forums. (and that's not much)

Stihl has both dealers and marketing and for that reason remains a dominant player in the OPE marketplace. They also have a sound reputation.

Husqvarna has less servicing dealers but lots of sale points. They also have marketing but in my opinion their reputation is waning as an increasing number of products are built for price point. I think for Husqvarna, their "pro grade" stuff is an ever diminishing percentage of sales and maybe isn't important to the bottom line, but if they lose their reputation for making high quality products, they'll just be another Troy Bilt component of MTD.

It's enough to make you wonder as far as I know the other major brands are easily found wonder why dolmar isn't more readily available

In my little town we used to have two chainsaw repair shops that sold dolmar and said that they are the best saws you can buy. 10 years later one shop is out of business and the other now sells echo. I asked the one why he stopped selling dolmar and his response is they are junk now that makita owns them and echoes are better. Another dealer was a hard core husqvarna and shindaiwa dealer which they said there was no better saws. Now they are a stihl dealer because they say Huskys and shinnys are junk. And yet one more was a stihl, jred, and echo dealer. I remember theme pushing jreds hard saying how good they are. Now they won't touch them since tsc sells them they are junk.
The whole fact of the matter is that salesman are always gonna be salesman and what they sell is always gonna be the best. i don't ask these shop for advice anymore. I'd rather learn from pros who use and actually work on saws for a living and try to work on things for myself

I got a Makita DCS 400 in a lot of saws. It had cracked up chassis surrounding the mag case. They wanted $75 for the plastic. Put parts on ebay and every one sold. There is a market.

It's all about the regional distributors and how well they supported dealers. It was uneven to say the least. That's why Makita took the distribution in house. I don't get the name change. Why give up the market penetration that you have.
