Is the cs590 a clamshell cylinder. What about the cs620??

They’re the same split case pro saw. The 620p has a better carb and an unlimited coil. But all parts interchange, cylinders are identical.

Cylinders are a little different port timing between the 620 and the 590. I run both and the 590 can be made to cut very close to the 620 with no port work.

The larger carb and the ignition coil of the 620 is unescassary on the 590. For a $400 dollar saw, 90 minutes of work, the 590 out-cuts a $900 stihl ms 362. So at less than half the price, it's the most versatile, best value out there.

Just tooled up a 590:

Redbeard bar adaptor(stihl bar to 590/620). Free Versacut aluminum-core bar I found in a sawdust pile. Exl chain off my 3 yr old spool.

Walbro 86-578-1 fuel nozzle, carb limiters filed off.

Clutch-side felling spike ( oem echo acsessory).

Base gasket delete, using threebond 1207d sealant on the base.

.015 off the flywheel to advance the ignition timing. Don't like anymore ignition advance than that on the gas i get hear in Alaska. Some of these youtube goobers, you can hear "cackling" in the saws in the cut: too much ignition timing.

Muffler opened up.

Anyhow, a 590 from this seller, you won't do any better. Most smiles per dollar.......

The port timing is different? I thought it was the same but I haven’t seen many 620s.

Agreed. 590 is an excellent value. 362…isn’t.

Do you have a couple pictures comparing the stock nozzle to the 86-578-1 fuel nozzle?

Does it flow more fuel than the stock nozzle?

I agree a MM, and giving it more fuel really wakes it up.

Ketchup,
In addition to larger carb and unlimited coil, yep, more aggressive port timing on the 620. Other differences:

620 has captive bar nuts, a magnesium clutch cover with the second felling dog. 590 does not.

620 has two piston rings, 590 is a single piston ring.

590 muffler is a slight bit more choked up.

590 has a plastic handle, 620 aluminum

590 has a spur sprocket, 620 has the rim sprocket. When the spur is worn out after a few chains, Archer now sells an affordable rim/clutch drum/bearing set for about $21

Fleet,
The stock nozzle has an additional fuel circuit that prevents the saw from hitting those peak rpm's. You can feel it in the cut, this high-speed "burble" that holds the saw back. The walbro replacement eliminates that "go rich" safety circuit so you can tune the saw where you want it.

Here's the stock nozzle. Fuel coming into the side, then additional fuel coming into the bottom:

$2 fuel nozzle, no extra fuel circuit (picture from traverse creek website):

Thank you for excellent details. I will have to consider doing this to my 590!
