Coolant leak.

Checked the fluids yesterday in the truck and the coolant res. Was dam near empty. I dont smell any coolant out the exhaust. Truck has never been over heated.
Its a 2011 siearrs with the 4.8L. Has 106000 kms (about 62000 miles). Never driven hard always babied.

I read on net that the water pump seals are known for leaking. I got truck up to temp today and looked all aroud and dont see any leaks at all.

Anyone else have this isue or anything to check?

Did you check your oil just to make sure there's no coolant mixing

Coolant system pressure testers are awesome to have in this situation.

When the engine is stone cold, run it without the radiator cap on. If you see air bubbles you know you have a blown head gasket or other issues like cracked block or heads. Rather rare at that low of mileage.

Yes iv checked oil. Looks good.

I tried taking cap off and fired it up and no bubbles or splash. Engine was ice cold.

Ill keep an eye on it. The coolant level never moved at all after i topped it up yesterday.

Mabe over the holidays ill pull the spark plugs out and do a compresion test to double check the head gasket. Im leaning toward the water pump probly seeping. But with the water pump almost $300 i wanna make sure thats what it is.

All vortec engines with the plastic intakes are known wellfor developing small external leaks test usually are so small they dry off on the block or exhaust. Honestly I am not sureif any mechanic can consistently cure a intake leak on these without installing a new intake. The slow leak is a common thing. And the troubles sealing them up for the long term is Proven. When we do them at work there are thingsto look for to know if it will hold up. But we only stand behind them for 1 year.

It must be a real slow leak i been keeping an eye on it the past few days and it hasnt gone down at all.
Im not too concerned but am gonna keep an eye on it. I checked the intake and water pump and never seen any leaks.

Could be a bad radiator cap

Keep an eye on it, it's not uncommon for leaks to show in the colder climates and seal up when warmed up.

Do you still have the dexacool in the cooling sustem?
